COVID-19 Stay At Home – How To Keep Yourself Busy

I am not ignorant. I don’t watch too much news about COVID-19 on purpose – to keep my sanity. The latest government advice in the UK is to stay at home as much as possible. That’s all I am doing at this moment. It’s simple, and it doesn’t need to be boring. This post may not be relevant to anyone who still needs to get up every morning and get out there to work or is desperately looking for work. This post is for everyone who can’t keep themselves inside because it’s too tedious.

There is a book I’ve read to my daughter recently. It’s called The Cave, written by Rob Hodgson, and I loved this saying: “Only boring creatures get bored.”

So all you need to do is keep yourself creative and busy!

Establish a Routine

Having a routine will help you to avoid boredom. That’s the best tip I can give you. You will need to work on your self-discipline and avoid procrastination, though. Are you homeschooling? It’s a good idea to wake up every day as if you were taking your kids to school! Are you working from home? Don’t forget to dress up every morning as if you were going to the office. Ideally, you want to start your day exactly as if you were going to work. Make a plan, write it down, follow your goals and stay at home.

Homeschooling Tips

I am a mum to one precious girl. If you have more than one child, you may start plotting an argument at the back of your head that having one child is the same as having no child. So in your eyes, homeschooling for me must be super easy. Whatever your thoughts are, homeschooling may be challenging for everyone and most of all for my little princes.

I suggest making a lesson plan will help you a lot in your day. I have started planning ours on Sundays afternoon and design the whole week. It makes my week much more relaxed – primarily because I work right after I finish homeschooling. For the planning, I visit my daughter’s school website and browse through the materials they have provided to parents. I conduct additional research for extra stuff if needed. Be inspired by Emily Norris, she will show you how to work and homeschool three kids in this Youtube video! Don’t forget to do PE workout with JOE! In the mornings. My daughter prefers Yoga with Jaime. Although being confined to our homes is not the ideal situation, we can practice and learn many new activities. If you have not been practising with your kids yet, I can highly recommend mindfulness meditation for kids! This activity is excellent towards the end of your day!

Exercise

Time is precious. I get it. It’s hard to find time to exercise when we are always on the go, but now it’s the time when you can start! It can begin with a 20 minute workout and when endorphins release you may feel happier! It’s essential to keep active and if you don’t want to do your exercise outside, do it in front of your telly or a laptop screen. You can do so many pilates online lessons for beginners or Zumba classes. It can be as little as 20 minutes for the beginning, and I promise you will feel great about yourself! Get your kids engaged too! Or how about a 90-day mommy challenge?

Stay Social

I am not a great fan of the virtual world. However, more than ever, I am grateful for video calls. My daughter keeps in touch with her school friends, and we talk to our friends and loved ones daily. Why not schedule a Skype dinner with friends? Stay Social!

Learn a New Skill

It’s time when you can learn new skills! Maybe you want to learn about the Digital Economy or Digital Product Management? Visit Futurelearn.com for more details!

Movie Marathons

It may sound like a dream for some people because it involves a lot of sofa time!! Finally, we can get to see our favourite movies or TV series! I recommend you avoid watching documentaries like Pandemic and focus on Friends or comedies instead! Watch stuff that brings joy to your stay at home situation, and include a lot of documentaries about nature!

Virtual Tours

You can explore so many places without leaving your home! For example, the Guardian has listed ten world’s best virtual tours of museums and art galleries! This list can be expanded about visiting Zoos and watching animals live on their web cameras!

Practice Gratitude

Don’t forget to practice gratitude. Please read about this great FREE Workbook, which may keep you busy for 21 days!

This post is for everyone who may find it hard to adjust to the new situation. Take your time, plan your days and keep yourself busy. Don’t forget to relax and stay positive. Before we know it, everything will go back to normal. Please stay safe.

Take care,
